I know that. (trust me ;-)) But I'm following the common usage of terms
 (which is/are wrong sometimes)

Anyway, please go in a computer shop these days, and try to get an
pci_to_ide interface.
All you get is a pci_to_ide controller ;-)

And, BTW, with all this registers, fifos, line drivers, this chips are
not so far away anymore to be called controllers ...
