Actually there is quite a bit of difference between the 300 and the 700. It 
is the 400/500/600/700 that share the same architecture. See this article 
<http://www.digital.com/info/DTJ705/DTJ705SC.TXT> for a description of how 
DEC changed the 300 to get 4 times the performance out of what was their 
fastest VAX.

The "technical manual" for the KA690 (VAX 4000/700) is really just a couple 
of addendum/changes to the KA680 manual. For what it is worth I would 
really like to get one of these CPUs to "round out" my VAX herd, except for 
the MicroVAX I and rtVAX (KA610, KA620) I've got representatives of all the 
Q-bus vaxen.
