Subject: Stuck prom on VS3100 M76 --- how to reset?

I happened to fall heir to a fine VS3100 M76 box with full up ram sticks
(32M?) and a 2D graphics board that will run a VRH19 monitor. I loaded
my clone boot drive off the shelf with 1.4Y on it, and thought I would
try to bring the machine up. Alas, it seems stuck, possibly in a
protected mode? or has a strange prom?.... not sure. The only commands
it knows from the prom are b, boot, h, and halt. The usual init, unjam,
show (anything), etc, kind of VAXish thing usual to my 3100 M38, does nothing.

The only drive in it was a 50mb! RZ22 thing which would indicate it was
only a netbooted workstation of some kind, originally.

Is there a jumper I need to reset or something else to clear it to
come up into the full prom?

At poweron it runs the prom tests and then immediately tries to boot esa0.

A manual reset shows >>> but only the halt and boot commands seem
to work. Everything else comes up with an ILL CMD error msg.

By any chance could the on-board nvram chip be bad? I thought I noticed
a Dallas nvram/clock chip when I pulled the HD mount plate to check for
ram installed.

Anyone have a list of prom commands for the M76, if they are strange?

The monitor cable that came with it I am unfamiliar with. It is a DEC
thing and probably for VAX since it only has a keyboard(?) port on it
plus the 3 BNC cables to the monitor. Am I correct in assuming that
is supposed to be a keyboard port? It did not work when I tried it
but the chassis keyboard port did. The end was rectangular about 2x3
inches and 3/4 inch thick, with 3 x 6" bnc connectors for R/B/G.
I did not catch the number off it.

Is there any particular level of NetBSD recommended for this particular
machine? I thought I would start with the 1.5_ALPHA port, first.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Bob
