The cheapest thing will probably be to find a KFQSA MSCP->DSSI controller 
and connect the internal DSSI Bus up to that instead of the 4000/300's 
internal connector. It is MSCP and it works well with NetBSD.

SCSI controllers can be purchased for $250 - $800 depending on model from 
most of the DEC resellers. I like the CMD ones that do both tape and disk 
emulation but Emulex makes a good one as well. I would avoid a Viking Qxx 
type controller on the 4000 only because it seems to waste a lot of the 
CPU's time (This is only anecdotal evidence however, I replaced one with a 
CMD 220 and I/O performance increased about 50% and load averages decreased.)
