Either, both the CD-ROM and the internal drive have the same target 
address, or you need the firmware upgrade. I had a VLC with this problem 
and one that didn't, copied the later firmware to the bad one and it works 
fine. (in my case it was a Syquest SD555 drive that was screwing up)
