Seriously though, the VT220 only does software (XON/XOFF) flow control.
If you keep pumping bits at it after it sends a few XOFF's, it will start
to display garbage characters (with lots of reverse ?'s)
.. maybe an 'xo' somewhere in your termcap(5) file will help...
