hi,

	some updates on my progress with my flaky VAXstation 3100: the
systemboard does indeed have 4Mb ;-), the expansion boards 4M and 8M, i som=
ehow
couldn't count... after heavy use of a vacuum cleaner and some tweaking with
the system-board jumpers (seems i managed to disable the secondary cache)
memory tests are ok and the maschine boots. (the ? after the "B" test vanis=
hed)

	i managed to install netbsd-1.4M, though not through sysinst. i had to
do it manually. sysinst was neither able to "ping" my nfs-server (although =
the
network seemed to be "somehow" up; the machine responded to pings, but i
couldn't ping other machines) nor was it able to write a disklabel ("some e=
rror
occurred"). so i installed from a cdboot image dd'ed to a spare disk.

	some problems remain, however: running with disabled secondary cache is
not very satisfying ;), and the machine seems a bit sluggish, esp. with reg=
ard
to i/o performance to the harddisk (a maxtor lxt-213). is this situation any
better with more recent kernels? =20

	and i would be really thankful if somebody with access to an owner's
manual of a vaxstation 3100 m30/m40 could drop me a line what the error-cod=
es
of memory-errors really do mean. (i get 0010.0800, where 0010 is the amount=
 of
installed ram, and 0800 is the error-code with (to me) unknown meaning)
