the marks on the cable were to indicate the spacing of taps. The tap has 
a jacket around it to keep it from touching the shield. This madatory 
spacing is one of the reasons thicknet can be used for such a great 
distance. The distance along the cable of any tap must be a multiple of 
this minimum, thus all taps must be on the marks. The shield has no holes 
of such a sort perforated in it. pity that nobody plays little rf games 
like this anymore.. :)
