You might want to try to install the files manually if everything else
fails with sysinst.
1.Boot the cd, and step out to a shell.
2.Disklabel and newfs the partitions. I use a layout that looks something
like sd0a=/ sd0b=swap sd0g=/usr The sizes depend on your configuration.
I usually make the swap twice the size of the amount of physical mem.
Don't make the rootpartition too small, it really sucks to find out that
it's too small...
3. Create the mountpoint for the cdrom /cdrom, and mount it readonly.
4. Mount your rootpartition at /mnt and unpack the archives. You can
unpack them with "gzcat /cdrom/binary/sets/base.tgz |(cd /mnt;tar xvf -)"
and so on. I don't think you will need the --unlink option with tar.
Proceeed with all the packages you need. It might be a good idea to
make the mountpoint /mnt/usr and mount your usr-partition there, _after_
you have mounted your rootpartition. Then you won't need to worry about
what parts of the packages goes where.
5. Use disklabel to write the new bootblocks to the disk. The bootblocks
can be found in /usr/mdec, even though it doesn't matter, you should use
/usr/mdec/sdboot. I don't remember the exact syntax, use disklabel -?
6. Umount the disk, and reboot. The system should now be able to boot from
the SCSI disk.
7. Enjoy your newly installed Vaxen. :-)
