On the MicroVAX II you need the MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor (MDM).
The software was delivered on TK50 or floppy, mine is on TK50. You
boot from tape and get a menu for tests, formatting, etc.

As somebody already pointed out, it's easier (and faster) to use
a MV2000 and type "test 70". Booting from TK50 is *slow*.
