disklabel reports my disk as 409792 sectors. I shrink the partition
down to 311296 (1024c, just for a round number. ;>), and I still get
this error:

vax# newfs sd0c
write error: 311295
wtfs: Undefined error: 0

# size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg]
  c: 311296 0 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16 # (Cyl. 0-1023)

Why does it allow me to newfs that partition some times, but not
others?
