I have the same problem on my 3100/m38.  The problem is actually that
it is several keystrokes behind what you type.  So if you keep typing
things, you will eventually see the things that you typed.
For now, I just type "sd0" and press return 3 times over and over
until it gets it.  Once the system comes up, everything seems to be fine.

Sounds like a queue is being referenced at the wrong place or something...
