The monochrome console on the VS 3100 series is supported in NetBSD since 1.3.2
i think. I worked with it on my VS 3100 m76.

Simply pull out the 8 plane FB and connect the mono monitor (VR-299 connected
with the green channel does the job if you haven't the mono screen. Pinout of
