Maybe you have a hardware problem... cabling or so. In worst cast even the
serial port of your VAX is damaged. Check the line parameters again, they must
be 9600 bps, 8 bits, 1 stopbit, no parity.
The rest of the output looks ok, just the junk looks very much like line
problems.
