To run the latest snapshot you must:
1) Switch the disg switch on the rear of the machine to "diag".
2) Put the console cable in Serial port 4.

You can, if you don't want to do this, just pull the plug into 
connector 4 (or 3, depending on which machine it is) after it has
written out the "0x5a8".
