Hi,
I had the same problem awhile back. The first and second QBUS slots are
occupied by a KA640 CPU and a 8Mb RAM card.
The TK70 controller card where placed in the upper fifth QBUS slot. The
SHOW DEV command displayed the controller,
but not the tape drive and it made a high pitch sound with short intervals.
I moved the TK70 controller card to upper third QBUS slot and the sounds
disappeared. The SHOW DEV now correctly
displays the TK70 and I can boot from it. The sounds are probably some sort
of warning sound.

Has anyone ever seen a situation where a TK70 tape drive loads and unlo=
ads
tapes finely when not connected to the controller, but when you connect=
 it
to
the TQK70, it makes a clicking sound every 30 seconds or so, and refuse=
s to
operate at all? If so, could you kindly tell what is failing? My hardwa=
re,
my
cabling or what? I have a KA640 CPU on the first slot of qbus, a 16MB
memory
board on the second and nothing at all on the rest. Except the TQK70, w=
hich
I've tried to use in many different locations along the bus. It should =
be
on
upper half if I understood the docu properly, but wherever I put it, it=

just
plainly refuses to work. 'SHOW QBUS' shows it up properly but it can't =
see
the
tape drive. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.
