Are you sure it actually stopped immediately?  If you don't force mopd to
run in debug mode, it daemonizes and runs in the background.  You can
check to see if it's running in the background with a `ps' command. 
Still, I'd recommend running mopd with the -a and -d options until you get
the VAXstation booted. Once you've got things running successfully, you'll
want to run mopd as a daemon.

You'll have to issue a `b esa0' command at the VAX console prompt, or
you'll wan to set the VAX's default boot device to be esa0.
