It might be useful to include in the installation FAQ somewhere
that the serial console should be plugged into MMJ port 3
(and the break enable switch should be set upwards) for booting 
3100-m30 vaxen (or 3100's in general?); I could find this
essential info nowhere (or did I overlook?).

After kicking the machine and myself many many times I finally
discovered this was the problem... 

The joy of seeing it boot was great though =)
