Things are going a bit better now. As I said, any time I load down
the system a bit, as in "cd /usr/src/lib/libc && make cleandir", it
panics with a "trap: access fault without process".
Now, I've found a way to work around it: If I don't use a partition
for swapping, but instead only swap to a file, it's OK. Any attempt
to use an actual swap partition, irrespective of what disk it's on,
and through what kind of controller, will cause the above panic when
the memory load gets heavy enough.
Again, this is with a 1998-10-03 kernel and 1998-06-13 userland.
Is there anything I can do to try to find out more about this?
