It is POSSIBLE to open the HDA, but don't expect the drive
to live long. Hopefully, long enough to salvage your data.

My fix is...

REmove drive, and open out the electronic board. Disconect the
EMA lead to the HDA. Seal it in a plastic bag, and leave in freezer
for several hours or overnight. Power up the drive, let it come up to
sped, the plug the EMA back in. Then suck data before the little
s*** dies forever. Worked for 2 out of 2 so far.
