G'day eh,
I tried to install via the 1.3 boot (TK50file1) on a uVAX 3400 TK70,
using a uVAX3100-40 VMS5.5-2 to write to a TK50 tape on a TZ30.
The files are 512 byte fixed length records on the VMS side and
the drive is mounted foreign/block=512 before copying.
After b/3 mua0:, some tape is read but then it simply halts around
5e10??
The file cksum is fine.
[Anyone else have problems with the 1.3 boot TK50 file?]
With the 1.2g TK50 files, it boots fine and I have been able to edlabel
an RZ25 on a CMD CQD-223 MSCP to SCSI interface. I can also load and
run copy. With both the boot and miniroot on one tape (my only tape!)
I was able to copy the miniroot file from tape and write to the disk.
After rebooting from the tape, it was unable to find any file named
ra(0,1)netbsd or gennetbsd or any drive/partition variants. edlabel
shows that the partitions were set up and the controller diags show
the disk is ok.
[What is the proper file name of the miniroot?
What is the proper file/controller specs during 1.2g boot:
ra(0,0,1) or ra(0,1) for dua0 partition b?]
I copied the 1.2g files to the tk50 again and it still boots and
runs copy, but now when it reads the miniroot it just sits there
spinning the progress bar (-\/-...) for ever, with the tk70 moving
like normal. I was able to read the miniroot exactly once, but
now it does not seem to work. Anything I should be checking?
The WRITE PROTECT light also comes on, significant?
If you copy the boot and miniroot to the same tape, you specify the
device to read from under copy as mt(0,1), correct? Do you need
to dismount the tape and reload it or does the system know that
that it is already sitting at the miniroot file?
The 3400 has the Lance ethernet on ESA0 and I tried to netboot from
a linux pc, but it halted after the first line (howto or netboot?)
with an SCB2INT or some such. I have 52 Mb installed (the max!),
so I thought the 16 Mb limit might be a problem. However, I can't
get just 16 Mb, since the smallest memory board is 16M and there are
4M on the CPU, I get 4M or >=20M!
Can I netboot with only 4M? Can I disable the extra (sheesh!) 48M
just by taking the ribbon connector off the front of the cards or do
the cards need to be pulled (which means the 4 i/o cards all need
to be pulled and moved)?
Thanks for any help.
