I'd suggest using a VAXstation as a crutch machine, the netbooted VS3100s
I use are generally stable development platforms. And they've got the
added benefit of being a good bit faster at compiling than a vanilla
MicroVAX II. Compile your kernel mods on the VAXstation and then move the
kernel image over to the MVII. The VAXstations also have the benefit of
being small and unobtrusive (of course this detracts from their "fun"
value).

I think your efforts to contribute to the port would be well appreciated.
I've been digging in to the kernel source with what spare time I have, but
it will probably be a long while before I can be of any use for coding on
the port. Getting more people active in the effort could definitely help
us cover more territory.
