How about something like the new Minix boot loader? It's great. :) It
might still be the one from the old Minix, dunno if they've enhanced it
for 2.0.0. It has menus, configurable at boot time (this may not be the
loader; i haven't read the LILO docs either :) ), but you can also boot
any partition on any drive. It reads the minix file system (which would be
replaced by UFS or whatever it's called of course), I think you can even
list files, etc. And IIRC it isn't very big, which I assume is important
for boot loaders.
