A MicroVAX II is perfectly capable of booting from a SCSI device, though
some controllers required specific versions of the firmware to support
certain devices. For instance, the UC07/UC08 required "N" or later to
deal with CD's.

I've a MicroVAX II with a UC08 and a Maxtor 8760S running VMS, and it
boots beautifully both from the disk drive as well as from the 8mm
tape drive that I have hooked up on the second SCSI channel.
