Your view was the one I was waiting for.  I had come to the same opinion 
that 10 or even 12 MByte is what we need for the root partition.  The
current one doesn't appear to have enough space to carry out a make install,
it also doesnt seem to have enough space for more than one kernel.

Would it be possible for the installation papers and disktab to be modified
to cope for this?.
