I got the same sort of error when I modified GENERIC similarly. The only
change I had made was to add a second swap partition on ra4.

In my case I used:
	config          netbsd          root on ra0 swap on ra0 and ra4

I don't think you're supposed to specify the specific partition, just the
drive, the config does the rest (adds partitions to the disk name).

My new kernel wouldn't boot either. I don't recall the exact message, but I
did tell the list about it.
