Now that i have also one of my vaxeses running NetBSD I have thought about
trying to make a serail board driver fot them, I have maybe 6 DH-something
boards(8ports each) that people tell me are sucky and 2 what i think are dz
cards.

Are the old drivers for these things encumbered ? I dont have any 
documentation for them.
