Subject: Installation Strangeness

I am in the process of installing 1.3 on my Sun3/60 and under the tapeboot have
the following hard discs recognised:

 sd0 IBM 105MB
 sd1 WREN 999MB
 sd2 Quantum 150MB

 st0 Viper Archive 150MB

Now when I boot SunOS the WREN is seen as sd2 - is this expected (it always was
sd2 under SunOS and I expected NetBSD to recognise it as the same ?) I think I
will have to check the SCSI ids of all my devices to be on the safe side.

Also when I use the tape drive to copy the miniroot across I get errors from
the tape drive (can't remember the exact messages). Anyway the miniroot in swap
refuses to boot (but this was a partially working 1.2 system swap area I was
writing over ??).

When I installed 1.2 about 8 months ago I think I did the following:

Format and partition disc under SunOS
Newfs all file systems on the new disc
dd the miniroot from SunOS to the swap on the disc
boot the miniroot and install from another partition on the same disc (ie
copied the netbsd tarball onto mounted partition under SunOS).

Have I missed out something ?? Should I install bootblocks on the swap
partition? I really can't remember what I did :-(

I wish I had taken notes the last time. This time I will and make it available
on my WWW page when I have everything working.

Thanks for any pointers,

Richard.
