I haven't had a chance to look at this stuff, but it is interesting.
One question: Would it be reasonable to use the standard /sbin/init
and run all the Xkernel environment stuff from an /etc/rc script?
That way, you could make /etc/rc run whatever you want.
(It would stay permanently in single-user mode.)
Just a thought...
