port-sun3: install over SunOS

I have a 3/60 that I'd like to install NetBSD on but I can't get the 
tape drive to work.  My question is, is it possible to install it by 
hand over a SunOS 4.1.1 system (i.e. boot 4.1.1 off the hard drive, 
overwrite SunOS boot files with NetBSD boot files, reboot, continue 
NetBSD install)?
