Hi Folks,

The talk over the last few weeks about a Sun-3x port of NetBSD has renewed
my interest in giving NetBSD a go. I have a few 3/60's and 3/80's here, as
well as a 3/480 board which used to be running in my rackmount server until
I upgraded to a 4/280 Sparc board. I like 3/80's since they are in the same
box as the SS1, and with some oscillator trickery the CPU clock can probably
be boosted at least to around 25 MHz to make the machines run much more
respectably.

Both the 3/80 and the 3/480 use 68030 CPU's and the on-chip MMU, and they
both run the Sun-3x kernel architecture. It would be good to see the Sun-3x
port support both of these machines, although I'm probably the only person
on this list who has a 3/480. It's probably a long-shot type of question,
but are the 3x port folks planning on including 3/480 support at some stage?
Given that 3/80's are many orders of magnitude more widely distributed than
3/480's, perhaps not, but it doesn't hurt to enquire I suppose...

I've noticed that there is rudimentary support for VME bus devices such as
SMD controllers, etc. in the existing Sun-3 kernel architecture release, so
most of the work (apart from the Sun-3 vs Sun3x kernel issues) are probably
taken care of.

Regards,

Craig.
