Perhaps it's slow if the thing is running a full OS.  But at work, we
have a bunch of old Sun-3s (mostly /50s and /60s) that we use as X
terminals.  They run a SunOS 3.5 kernel diskless with nothing but Xsun
running at the user level - /etc/init is a shell script...and we find
them entirely usable.
