I seem to remember Bill Paul making a fair number of changes to the RPC 
stuff in FreeBSD, but I'm not certain that they went into 2.1 ... 
Couldn't hurt fo build the NetBSD rpc.bootparamd and try it...

Run tcpdump on that wire ... what does it say?
