Yup, that would make sense. The real problem was _not_ the clock
complaint, but rather that sometimes the machine would appear to
hany after printing the complaint. I let it sit overnight (well,
overday as I seem to be shifted), and it eventually booted just
fine, so that seems to work. The ddb problem still exists.
Speaking of which:

Both w/ a mono video as console, and w/ a serial console on
ttya (before I got ahold of a monitor...).

Umm, I have no idea :-). I don't have the FE book (borrowed it from
a friend when I set it up), so I'm not sure. It boots with ble(),
if that's what you mean...
