Installation was pretty standard:
 - CDROM drive ate the disk (and has refused to cough it up since, looks
like I need to replace the entire media module)
 - so I spun up the standard netboot installer, installed it that way

The machine prefers SAS disks, but it happily accepts SATA disks as well.

One caveat: the firmware boot code absolutely refuses to deal with a
root filesystem larger than 4G. Make the root filesystem smaller than
4G and it boots fine.

Current disk layout:
Filesystem Size Used Avail %Cap Mounted on
/dev/sd0a 3.8G 173M 3.4G 4% /
/dev/sd0d 126G 8.6G 111G 7% /usr
scratch 291G 23K 291G 0% /scratch

on this disk:
[ 4.934755] sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <ATA, SAMSUNG HD502IJ, 1112> disk fixed
[ 5.024754] sd0: 465 GB, 476941 cyl, 16 head, 127 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 976773168 sectors

I haven't tried X yet, it came with an XVR-100 and I've got an XVR-2500
sitting on the shelf. RAM for it was surprisingly cheap, so it got the
full 16G it supports (dual CPU variant with both CPUs present).

Happy to be of service ;-)

Kind regards,
           Alex.
