I often wonder how things might have turned out for SPARC if a
different company had acquired Sun back in 2010.

In the same period, ARM has evolved from being an embedded-only
architecture to becoming a major force in the server market. SPARC, by
contrast, once held tremendous potential, its strong legacy in
enterprise and high-performance computing made it a serious contender
for long-term success.

Unfortunately, a lack of strategic vision and overly aggressive
business practices eroded industry confidence. As a result, many
organizations have abandoned the platform, and large volumes of SPARC
hardware now regularly appear on eBay at a fraction of the original
cost.
