Download a kernel from the daily builds, for example:

http://ftp.fr.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/HEAD/201606260800Z/sparc64/binary/kernel/netbsd-GENERIC.gz

and then do (as root):

  # mv netbsd-GENERIC.gz /netbsd.test
  # shutodwn -b netbsd.test -r now

This should boot your 7.0.1 installation but with a -current kernel. Then
test if X works for you.
