I'm using a Dell 2824. And the sparc64 is a SunFire v240. Negotiation takes a bit, but isn't the core of the problem.
And yes, I too remember fighting with Cisco 2900's (and 3500's) about that issue. We used to hard-code the speed and duplex on them to avoid, or at least assist, that issue.
