Good question.  What model of drive?  Off chance my 40GB Maxtor might
allow me to test too.

If you have a pciide(4)-family card around, you might try
http://www.netbsd.org/ports/sparc64/faq.html#pci-cards
This would have the advantage of gaining working UDMA modes.

There are firmware updates, might be harder to get a hold of
now.  Also, no idea if they fix anything like this.
