on Solaris things generally compile 32-bit by default.  You have to
set special compiler flags to ask for the 64-bit version of things,
and after it's built it gets installed in /usr/bin/sparcv9 or
/usr/lib/sparcv9 instead of /usr/bin and /usr/lib.
