I use bootp/dhcp with the following dhcpd.conf

         host sparc64 { # dragonfly
                 hardware ethernet 00:03:ba:03:de:0c; # Adjust to your
MAC address
                 fixed-address 192.168.0.184;                # Adjust
                 option root-path "/stuff/sparc64a";
                 server-name="192.168.0.183";
                 next-server 192.168.0.183;
         }

The sparc64 will look to tftp for a file named something
like 19998FBD.SUN4M dependant on your ip.

Not sure this helps if you can not change settings on the
dhcpd/bootp/nfs/tftp server.
