All U5 and U10 mainboards with a Rage II have only 2MB VRAM - newer 
boards have a Rage Pro and 4MB VRAM.

With 2MB VRAM you can only get 8 bit colour at this resolution.

You may want a Creator board. It's a lot faster in most operations ( 
slower in a few, like moving windows, but for instance anti-aliased 
text rendering is MUCH faster thanks to hardware-accelerated 
alpha-blending and a much, much faster bus )
Besides that it would allow higher resolutions in 24bit.
