Great! Here's what I did:

-netbsd-3.0 sparc64 miniroot.fs sysinst
-ftp install with netbsd-3.0 sparc sets
-***copied MAKEDEV from netbsd-3.0 sparc64 install***
-./MAKEDEV populates wd*
-installed SUN4U kernel

It works!! Thanks for the help!

Now I either need to get used to XSun or somehow install XFree86. In
any case I hope X works as well as with sparc64 (is this a lot to
ask??).
