If it were simple matter, NetBSD would have SMP support on sparc64 a long time
ago. I think Linux and FreeBSD support SMP on sparc64 and definitely Solaris.

Unless you're into Sparc assembly and kernel programming, I don't think there
is much you can contribute. I'm not a kernel developer myself, but learning
about Sparc architecture and Solaris/NetBSD kernel code is high on my list.
