It's all committed now - just check out -current kernel sources and xsrc via cvs, although xsrc probably isn't even required, the stock xbase.tgz may contain the ati driver. Even the GENERIC kernel config contains the necessary changes now. XFree86 itself didn't need any source changes. 
If you need additional/example configuration files ( like XF86Config, xmodmap ) get them here:

make sure to add a line for /dev/ttyE0 to /etc/ttys so you can actually use the console and comment out the one for /dev/console - having gettys sitting on both gives odd effects. Make sure you can login via network or a serial port in case things go wrong.
