Okay. Then the patched wd.c file somehow causes that powerd doesn't
start. Any ideas what might be responsible for this and how I could get
powerd starting also with the patched wd.c?

I booted the GENERIC kernel without this patch. It took about 5-10
minutes for the system to come up (including file system checks) and
powerd is definitely running now:

ultra10: {1} ps aux |grep powerd
root 365 0.0 0.1 56 872 ?? Is 11:29PM 0:00.00 /usr/sbin/powerd

I get the message "shutdown: halt by root: power button pressed" and
then the system powers off. And on the next startup _all_ partitions
need to be checked again.
