In some sense this is the 'required' (if unexpected) behaviour of 
a network interface (I think it lurks in the bowels of 802.2).

Most ethernet chipsets don't return tx packets on the rx side,
however I did find that the sun sbus 'feps' (fast ethernet,
parallel, scsi) chipset returned tx frames an 10M, but not at
100M!
