Uhmm - not sure if you are thinking of me here, but I can report there is
work underway. But it's yet quite a long way to go. Most of this is not done
by me (i.e.: I only picked up the parts that are easy to do and left every
real work to others).

The plan is to get a graphics based VGA wscons console driver running on
sparc64 with integrated VGA chips soon. Once that's done there is no big
machine/port dependend think to solve, we can then sit back and reuse the
work done for macppc and others. Besides fixing BE 64bit bugs in the X
code, of course....
