Yeah. It happened to storage too.

My hp300 machine, back when I had one, had a disk drive that held,
IIRC, about one gig, and weighed about what I do. (Mind you, it was
seriously rugged. A friend of mine said, on looking at it, something
like "when they nuke the city, it'll loss of power that takes it down"
(ie, not the EMP).)

And I just today found, loose in the clutter in my "office", a "4G"
(really about 3.72G) SD card. Three and three quarters times the
storage of that disk drive on something roughly five orders of
magnitude lighter - and with a footprint almost exactly that of the end
joint of my thumb. And so cheap it's loose in the clutter instead of
being kept carefully stored against damage or loss.

Well, "useless" is very user-dependent. A quad qe may serve no useful
purpose in _that_ machine, ie, for _that_ user's use cases, even though
it may be highly useful in other cases. The quad qe I have in live use
in my desktop SS20 right now would serve no useful purpose in a
different SS20 I have, because they're doing very different jobs.

"New And Improved!". Agreed.

One of the many deep-rooted illnesses of our society.
