Returning to the original question about dse(4), I just tested in
QEMU, and the driver adds 40k of memory overhead, a 0.1% increase to
the memory usage of the default minimal NetBSD install.

Adding dse to GENERIC just seemed like the simplest change to achieve
the effect I want, but including dse in the default modules set, or
shipping multiple kernels would also solve my (small) problem.
